TIME TESTED TEST TAKING & PREPARATION STRATEGIES

~from our Terrific Teachers~

Please tell us what has worked for you:)

2) Give them a Survival Kit

3) Time Tested Stategies that are for sure to work:

  • Boxing key words
  • Removing only information from paragraph that is needed to answer ( isolate key info)
  • Dividing box for amount of answers needed to compete question --- I have talked to students about typing a 1 then a 2 on the next line on computers so that the 2 automatically moves down as they type but is still visible for them to see that they need a second part for their answer.
  • In math making sure that they look to see if they need a larger or smaller number. Know which operations give larger numbers and which give smaller numbers
  • Labeling all work
  • Giving more details then you think needed
  • When writing use a B M E to get thoughts for beginning, middle and end story.

two ways to think about a problem that’s slightly too hard for you to solve.

Are you not smart enough to solve it … or have you just not solved it yet?

STAIR STEP SPELLING!  ~contributed by Bradley Meddock

What a great way to work on detail, phonemic awareness, correct

word spelling and more!

1) Have your students put the first letter of the word on the first line.

2) Next put the first and second letter of the words on the second line

3) Continue to copy the letters above and add a letter for each line

(forming stair steps)\

4) The last thing to do is draw the steps around the form they have

created.

IT REALLY MAKES THEM THINK ABOUT EACH LETTER.

IT IS CHALLENGING AT FIRST AND A WAY TO HELP THEM

REMEMBER! I could hear them pronouncing each "word" as they wrote:)

WHAT IS PROGRESSIVE EDUCATION?  Check it out!!!

We believe schools are essential to a democratic society.
Therefore,

  1. We create a community for teaching and learning for all ages.

  2. We raise social consciousness by encouraging the school community                                                     to examine and act upon complex issues within a democratic society.

  3. We respect diversity among children and variation in their development.

  4. We collaborate with colleagues and parents as co-educators to meet                                            children’s needs.

  5. We engage in thematic studies and foster authentic and emergent                                                    learning experiences.

  6. We structure experiences that actively engage children in the process of                                              learning and guide child choice and decision-making.

  7. We design opportunities to integrate the arts in curriculum as an essential                                                   way to acquire and express knowledge.

  8. We use time and space in a flexible manner.

  9. We facilitate ongoing reflection and self-evaluation by children and adults.

  10. We use learning groups and documentation to support and deepen learning.
